Water was an extraordinary movie. its a moving movie about how widows in India spend there life after there husbands death. One of there beliefs is that a girl shall be married by the age of 7 or 8. In this movie a child is forced to be put in a house of widows all because of indigenous belief. All because of there husbands die they are considered polluted as a lady says in the movie. But in this film there is a young girl named Chuyia her husband died when she was at least 10 years old. She is sent off to a widow house and as she lives there she meets older ladies that live there like a girl named Kalyani. She also meets a man named Narayan and he seems like a respectful helpful man. As she lives at the widow house she sees how it is hard to live a life like a widow. Overall i think this is a moving movie to watch to see how other cultures do things.

When I first watched Water, I was astonished and disappointed by the way the director did the movie. The emotions, the deep mental thinking, very neatly and thoroughly thought. The way the director put the way widows situation.
But the thing that is weird is that the way females get married. Getting married at age 7-9 years of age. It makes no sense. The female gets married, man dies later,later and at that time the females is 9-10 years of age. And now the girl is a widow. Now she is a widow for her rest of her life. And now she can get re-married. That's ridiculous. SOB. But anyways!!!

Cambiando de tema (changing the subject) Like when the chick (Narayani) is treated like hell. Very cruel. No one should treat a women like that. And the thing that is dramatic is she won't do anything about it. AND when she does do something. She goes to the river and kills herself.

I thought the movie water was extraordinary!!! Deepa Mehta showed many different morals of the Hindu religions in 1938. This movie showed that things may go differently then planned in life, but if you make it something more, then you can still live a happy life. Chuyia was a strong 7 year old girl. she was very opinionated, and she didn't take no for an answer.
When she was widdowed at age 7, chuyia is hurt and confused, being forced to shave her head and live with a group of widdowed women she had never met before. Chuyia embarks on a journey of discovery. She realizes the beauty of friendship, and finds her self more lovely then ever before. She is forced to live a life of hate, and prostitution, when she meets Diddi(the pimp) and Kalyani, the whore.
I believe that this movie had a strong message, that defined the strength of those widows, and the power that comes with following your dreams, and standing up for what you believe in. This story took place in India, in the late 1930's. It was a time of war, on the religious behalf.
We strongly reccomend this movie to those who are interested in history, and who enjoy a good film. We're sure that if you watch this movie, you will be just as satisfied as we were.
We give this movie a four and a half star rating, depending on the interest level of the viewers. So go out and watch this movie for yourself, only you can decide how great it really was.

One of the messages here in this movie I think is to, Never give up hope always try to hold on and never let go you never know what tommorow brings to your life.

Water is a good movie sad,and it makes you think of what could have happen in no one lost home.

When i saw the movie in Shule class, i thought it was good. I think it has a good message for kids and adults. The message that i got was never give up and fight 'til the end. I think this movie will help you in life and give you hope and make you realize to not give up in life.

Water is a great movie! This movie takes place in India in there religion they have arranged marriages. If the husband dies then the widow is sent to live in a house with other widows where they have to cut off all their hair. Chuyia was married at the age of 7, not long after that her husband died so she was sent away. Chuyia is a very curious girl who wants her freedom. This home is a very poor and unhappy place and she doesn't want to be there. Here she meets Kalyani who is a vey beautiful young woman she was the only woman there to have long hair. the leader of this home sends Kalyani to be a prostitute to get money for the home. This is a very unpleasant thing for her because inside she is still a little girl.

Kalyani meets Narayan who is a close follower of Gandhi and falls in love with Kalyani. He knows about her life and he doesn't care he still wants to be with her. This love story is just like a fairytale. A very moving movie, i would receomened this movie to anyone

The movie Water has 5 main characters: Chuyia, Kalyani, Narayan, Didi and Shankuntala. Each one has a different personality of their own. Chuyia is a curious little girl that becomes a widow after her husbands death. Kalyani is a beautiful girl who is friendly and caring. Narayan is a good looking guy who is a follower of Gandhi. Didi is the main lady from the Widows Home. Finally Shankuntala is a very devoted lady who seems to be unhappy.

The movie takes place in India were arranged marriages occur to young girls. Once their husband's die they become widows and get secluded from the rest of the people. Unfortunately that is exactly what happens to Chuyia at a very young age. Now Chuyia has to get use to a totally different life that she is not use to living. All Chuyia wants is to go back home to her family.

Overall i thought that Water is a great movie to watch. Water has an inspiring message. That message is that no matter what your going through do not give up your faith/hope because you never know what's going to happen.

Only a few movies have captivated me the way "Water" did, the way the movie developed and the characters themselves made you feel like you were part of the history too. A lot of people tried to stop the director from showing this movie and that makes you wonder why would they want to do that, the way they live in that house it's just sad and inhumane. The director did a great job on capturing the innocence of Chuyia, the small child that at very young age was a left as a widow in a kind of a retirament home, she is very curious and doesn't want to live restricted at such a young age. Another character that was important on this movie was Kalyani that was forced to do thing she never wanted to do and this that made her feel in a way that a woman should never feel like, this was just to save the women from starvation, or at least that what she was told. Shakuntala was the one that at the end did something that could have gotten in trouble, I won't say what it was but its the most important scene in the movie. She is in a lot of confusion with herself without knowing what to do or what to think, when she met Chuyia she discovered that she still had life left in her and that she was wasting it at the house she lives at, her religious prevents her from living the life she wants to live and when she sees that Kalyani has a chance to live a better life she decides to help her.

Water. It is a movie about this girl named Chuyia. She is about 7 or 8 years old. There religious beliefs are really weird. There society is not the same kind of society that we live in. There marriages are all arranged. They don't get to choose who the marry. But if you husband or to be husband had died then you are then a widow. You don't get to marry anybody else. They are basically cut off from there society. They get their heads shaved. The don't get to live with their families, they have to go live with all the other widows in the city. They can leave the widow house but nobody pays any attention to them. This girl Chuyia is only a young girl but her husband died and now she has to live in the widow house. She meets this girl named Kaleyani who is isolated not only from the society but also from the widows in the widow house. She has long hair unlike all the other widows.

This movie is a great movie. It doesn't have any action or suspense. It is all in a different language. The movie's message is hope. The characters in the movie think that most things are hopeless but even in the most difficult situations it tells you that there is still hope.

The movie water is an amazing movie with a lot of meaning, the movie is about a group of women who are forced to live in this house together because they all lost there husbands, they have to shave there head and they cannot communicate with the rest of the community. chuyia loses her husband around the age of 8-9 and she gets forced to leave her old life and leave her family to go live in a house with a bunch of other widdows, shes expected to stay there for her life but she has other ideas on how shes going to be getting out of the widdow house. chuyia is the type of little girl who doesnt get a lot and doesnt ask for alot but just wants her freedom and independence. she doesnt want people telling her where she has to live and she doesnt want to be left alone with all the older widdows. she just wants to go home. shortly after she enters the widdow house she meets a young women named kalyoni, the thing about kalyoni is she has long gorgeous hair and is the most beutifull out of the group of widdows, shes very sweet and friendly and likes to have fun and excitment.
kalyoni may be the most gorgeous and pretty but shes the whore of the house, she has to go and sell her body to men so that the other widdows have money to eat food, she doesnt much agree with what shes forced to do but she does it anyways so that theres no punishment. she meets a young man names narayan and quickly falls in love with him, they plan on being together but she shortly realizes that the man that she had just began to fall in love with, his father was one of her clients and so she changes her mind and then decides to take her own life. even though the next mornng narayan came back for her.
the ending of this movie is what i liked the most. i liked how the women sent chuyia with narayan and Gandhi and set her free to have a good life, you can tell that when shes chasing after the train that she really wants chuyia to have a good life but for some reason somethings holding her back to also get on the train and be set free. she seems confused as if she wasnt sure if she had decided what she wanted for herself. i love this movie!!!!!! its a very intense film,and makes you really think. it makes you want to cry its a sad movie with a lot of hope. :) i would recemend to watch this movie. its an amazing film and i love it!

the slumps of the widows

I think that this movie got pretty deep on the mental thinking part. Kalyani had me thinking for a while. She had to do lots of things she didnt want to do. Just to think about the hell that she went through, that's horrible. But oh well.

I thought it was a good film, sad at times but then again happy and glad. This movie was like a roller coaster ride, it got sad at the part when Chuyia got sent by Didi across the river and got me angry too, because that should never happen its simply wrong.

I was happy when Narayan wanted to marry kalyani any and run away madly in LOVE! (with chuyia)

It was a blend of emotions and a movie you want to just keep watching until its over. It kinda inspired me to have some more hope if mine runs out which would take a lot to do.

Well at first i thought the movie Water was going to be gay I'm not going to lie it looked boring I'm not going to lie. But once i started watching it i started to like it more then i was expecting to, the reason why i started to like it more was because it gets you to think about our freedom we have, we can marry somebody and if they pass away we get the chance to remarry unlike other countries that is not allowed.

This movie takes place in India it tells a story about a young girl named Chuyia she is about 7-8 years of age. in India there religious belief taught them that they had to get married at a young age and if there husbands died then they would become a widow and they were not aloud to remarry and they'd be sent to "THE WIDOW HOME" there they would have to shave there head and stay chaste. Chuyia there met Kaylani she is in her 20's and she is the only one that has long hair in the home, She shows kindness and friendliness to Chuyia.
